Course Map & Details

We have serious competitive athletes and those who run the course for fun.  Everyone will be chip timed.  To be fair to our competitive athletes the following rules will apply this year.

You must complete ALL obstacles in order to make it to the winners circle.

  1. If you fail to complete an obstacle on the first attempt you must go to the end of the line for your 2nd attempt.  No more than 3 attempts are permitted.  If you do not make it on your 3rd attempt you will not qualify for a trophy.  Each obstacle will be monitored and the bib # of those who must go around the obstacle will be submitted to race services.
  2. You must complete the full length of all balance beams without falling off.  Same rules for #2 apply.
  3. If a member of your Recon Team fails to complete an obstacle only that member needs make a 2nd and/or 3rd attempt.  Same rules for #2 apply.  The other members of the team must wait until every member of the team has properly completed the obstacle.

 2015 Obstacle Descriptions

1. Tire Pits

Charge up the hill and across large tire tractors (you must stay on top of them). Coming down the hill you will run through a set of smaller tires.

2. Hurdles

Low log walls throughout the Forest of Pain, 3-5’ in height. A moderate task for any but the fainthearted. (Constructed using metal stakes and logs that are positioned across from the Tire Pits). You must go over them and between the metal poles. Jump or climb it’s up to you.

3. Forest of Pain

A beautiful path that meanders up and down the hills of Mt. Holiday. The longest run of the course. This will get the fast runners to a series of obstacles first.

4. Serpentine

Twist and turn your way through this section. This path was created to avoid all the fallen trees of the 2015 storm. Stay between the ribbons and watch for uneven ground and tree roots.

5. Litter Carry

Recon Team – man down, seriously wounded. A casualty whose injuries or illness are of such severity that the patient is rendered unable to walk or sit, thereby requiring a litter for transport. You must carry this stretcher to a safe area.

Lone Warrior – Carry needed water supplies.

6. Log Drag

Recon Teams must carry their assigned logs the required distance before continuing. How you decide to carry it is up to you.

Lone warriors will drag a smaller log.

7. Down Hill Run

Let it all out and run down a hill full of sand and uneven terrain to your next obstacle.

8. Tube Climb

Climb the torturous tube run as fast as you can to beat your opponents. Head back up the hill on the left side of the Yellow Tube Lift. Round the top of the tree line and run back down looping around the line of trees. (Course will be clearly marked).

9. Tunnel

Get on your hands and knees and crawl through the culverts.

10. Rope Walls

Recon and Lone Warriors, 10 foot stout walls with ropes to assist climbers, a true test of a warrior’s mettle. This year we are adding some footholds to assist you if needed.

11. The Tire Wall

The second obstacle of the gauntlet is an intimidating wall of tires. Recon Teams and Lone Warriors will need all their strength for this one.

12. Decline Ladder

A ladder built of 6x6s and 4x4s where Recon teams and Lone warriors will use all their agility and strength to be able to ascend and down again. Going uphill appearances can be deceiving. Don’t underestimate this one.

13. Water Rescue

Be prepared to get wet. You must grab a flag half way down and drop it in a bucket at the bottom of the hill while being blasted by water. Miss the flag and back up you go.

14. Over/Under

A series of log walls to climb over, then a log you immediately have to dive under. How fast can you recover your speed? Remember (over the high walls and under the low walls). A military drill instructor will watch your every step and encourage your progress.

15. Cargo Transfers

Recon Teams and Lone Warriors will take cargo from one Humvee and move it to another one. You must properly secure the cargo prior to moving on. A sergeant will be there to inspect and approve your work.

16. Shooting Range

Recon Teams and Lone Warriors will need to shoot a cow bell with a paint gun. At this point you need to settle down and relax your mind and body to hit your target on the first shot. You can take as many shots as you need to hit the cow bell. You must shoot the bell before you move on.

17. Barrel Turn

Take whatever you have left in you and run uphill to the barrel taking a left and heading back downhill for the final 2 obstacles.

18. Water Balance Beams

Choose a log beam to cross the water pit and make a U turn to cross back over on another log. Fall off and start again.

19. Fire and Mud Pit

The final dive and dash to freedom through the mud and water, with a warm fire to heat your tired bones after the long battle up and down Mt. Holiday.
